The word I use to describe the last week. Some things I’ve learned this week:

  • I don’t like working out at home
  • I don’t like measuring my food
  • I don’t like working out at home
  • I don’t like working out at home
  • I don’t like working out at home

As you can tell there’s a subtle underlying theme…For those that don’t pick it up I’ll spell it out, I DON”T LIKE WORKING OUT AT HOME!!!!!!! It’s gotten to the point that I find myself dreading working out so much that I end up over sleeping and have to workout in the evening, which then makes it difficult to go to sleep.

P90x is what I expected when I bought it…I get a good workout and it’s effective. I just don’t like being in the house, in front of the TV working out. I’ve never been a gym rat but I do enjoy the environment. So with that being said I’m adjusting my workouts to include going to the gym more than working out at home. I will continue to do the plyometrics, yoga x, and ab ripper x portions of P90x. I just have to break up the monotony if I’m going to get through this.

As for the food weighing. I’m going to continue to stick with the P90x meal plan. It’s got a good selection of food but the only drawback is having to weigh things out. A hassle, but something I’ll continue to do.

My frustrations with the plan overall lead me to cheat last week. Thursday afternoon I had a chicken rice bowl from Moe’s and Friday I had a steak, which I’d planned on having with the P90x meal plan anyway. But the plan called for 10oz. I had the entire 24oz steak. I felt bad after eating it and resolved to stay on course for the rest of the weekend. I decided to get out of the house on Saturday in order to avoid wanting to eat junk. My mistake there was taking my motorcycle. One of my favorite pastimes is hopping on the bike and finding out of the way diner’s (a la Diner, Drive-In’s, and Dives). I ended up at Golden Corral. For those that don’t know Golden Corral is what I call a “Feed Trough Restaurant.” You walk in, pay your money and then slam your face in the feed trough. I hate to say it but if you want to feel better about yourself, go there. I tried to make healthy choices but let’s be honest, the “healthy” food there isn’t that healthy. Then came Sunday and the Superbowl. My usual routine is something bbq-ey. Well, that ended up being Buffalo Wild Wings. *sigh* Writing it down makes me feel even worse about falling off the wagon.

This is a new week and so far I’m on track. I’ll hit the gym up tonight and then get back on track with working out in the mornings. I want to stick with this program for the 90 days and beyond. I just need to find the right balance for me.

3 Days

I’ve got my grocery list done…Feeling good about the workout sequences…I feel mentally prepared to wake up early and knock out the workouts…Positive outlook on the first few weeks, I know I’ll be irritable but I’m not going to take it out on those around me.

I’m still feeling…out of sorts about it all…Not sure why.

By The Book

I’m committed to doing P90X by the book. With that in mind tonight was the fitness test. Here are my results with a Pass/Fail rating according to the book:

  • Resting Heart Rate: 72 (Pass. Pretty sure you just need to have a heartbeat to pass this one!)
  • Pull-up: 0 (Fail. In fact, a big fat fail on this one. Min is 3 unassisted which I couldn’t do)
  • Vertical Leap: 7in (Pass Min is 5in.)
  • Push-up: 3 (Fail Another big fat fail :-(. Min is 15 which as me concerned..That’s a pretty big gap.)
  • Toe-Touch: -5 (Pass 5in away from touching my toes. Fail was anything over -6)
  • Wall Squat: 2 min (Pass Min is 1 min with quads parallel to the floor)
  • Bicep Curls 10 with 35lbs (Pass Min is 10 curls with 20lbs)
  • In & Outs 28 (Pass Min is 25)
  • Heart Rate Maximizer HR175 @0min, HR115 @1min, HR99 @2min, HR94 @3min, HR91 @4min (Pass Complete full 2 min of jumping jacks at a steady fast pace with the last 30 seconds at sprint. HR measured immediately after and then at 1min increments.)

Overall I’m happy with the fit test. I feel like the time I’ve put in already actually has me somewhat prepared to give this my all..I actually did feel like throwing up after the 2 min of jumping jacks so I’m fairly certain that will be a familiar feeling during the next 90 days.

The Final Countdown

Ok..So that title sounds a bit dramatic…You may have noticed the countdown thingy over on the right side there…It’s counting down to 2/1/2011..What’s so special about that day? Well, I’m glad you asked! That’s the day that a few co-workers and I myself committed to start a 90 day workout challenge. Back in June of 2010 I took part in a 90 day challenge through work and while I finished it (admittedly not putting 100% out every day) it was tough to stay on track because I only had myself to hold accountable. I ended up losing 35lbs over that 90 day span. I probably could have lost more had I had more motivation and accountability.

I bet you’re sayiing “But you shouldn’t have to rely on other people to keep you motivated! You should just be able to do it and keep going!” I’m not wired like that. Over the last year I’ve done of a lot of self discovery and I realize that I can’t just go to the gym, and eat right day after day after day..I get bored. And getting bored causes me to slip. But as I found with the last 90 day challenge, if I know there’s an end date and something to look forward to then I’ll be more inclined to stick with the workout.

So, on 2/1/2011 I’ll be starting the workout program called P90X. And before anyone (else) comments:

Yes I know: It will be hard, I will feel like dying, I will be sore beyond belief, I will probably throw up, and yes, I’m very nervous about doing it..

I’m going to do it and I’m going to give it 120% and I’m following the plan to the letter for 90 days. I’ve never gotten a home workout so it will take some getting used to. I will be doing the pre-assessment on 1/27 and I’ll be taking some before pics tonight and posting them on here tomorrow or Monday (yes, I’m putting it off as long as possible!). I’ll also be keeping track of my planning and how I’m feeling throughout the workout. My co-workers will be doing the same on their respective blogs so look for some new links in the sidebar in the next few days.

So there you have it…The next few months this blog will see a good amount of activity so be sure to check back in!
